Come and see what we are all about!
"We believe life with our dogs should always be fun!"
OUR TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
We believe in doing things positively different. By using choice-based games and force-free training techniques we focus on what we WANT our dog to do instead of what we don't want. Combining this with the use of scientific learning principles we strive to help you build a positive, life-long relationship with your dog. We believe effective training should never mean sacrificing fun!
We are a 100% judgement free zone! We understand that everyone has a past. All we need to know is that you contacted us, you love your dog, and want to resolve the problems you are facing. Blame has no place in dog training and won't help you get closer to your training goals. Just like our dogs, we believe in second chances.

"Everything in life has an element of fun"
Alternative Canine's owner and head trainer, Katie Acken, has been around animals her entire life. Growing up with several dogs, cats and rabbits she's always had a special connection with animals and has been fascinated with the way they function and learn. Her love of dog training started as a kennel attendant at a Humane Society in Alaska. She developed a passion for helping the dogs lead better lives through play and reward based training. Katie went on to earn her training credentials and become a certified professional dog trainer while living in Alaska with her dog Lincoln. Since then Lincoln has accompanied her on two more big moves, one to New York and one that ultimately landed her in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Katie is passionate about teaching people the importance of proper communication between them and their dogs. She believes having fun and playing together helps bridge that gap in communication and enriches the lives of both dog and human. Katie is a graduate from Animal Behavior College and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. Katie is also an approved evaluator for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen, S.T.A.R. Puppy, and Trick Dog programs.
